Personal Ineptness: It’s How You Use It

by Marlo Heresco

A(nother) reason to not believe everything you read.

Beaches are a great place to people watch. Today was red-flag day on the beach, which translates into ‘windy for swimming’. Mid-way through the day I could not help but notice (and watch in amusement) a man attempting to put on sunscreen. It was not exactly what he was doing as much as it was the way he was doing it.

His significant other already applied hers, probably indoors. The guy however seemed to think in the sun, on the beach, in the wind was best. So with spray can in hand he began spraying in random directions only to have it swept away by the wind. At 20 feet away, I was getting more of it on me than he was. He never caught on that the wind was blowing 99% of his spray in the opposite direction.

After a few minutes he finally quite. Perhaps his can had run dry.  I just shook my head and thought, ‘he’s going to wake up tomorrow with a nasty sunburn. He will then refer to the sunscreen as a crappy product and blame it for not working.’

I couldn’t help but wonder if he’s one of these guys that gets paid for consumer product reviews.

  1. Hello, I just stumbled across your blog and found this amusing. I guess this leaves you in a better position to produce the consumer review! Hope you remained free of burns!

  2. Yes, I am free of burns, thank you. :) I have always been a people watcher and tend to often see people fumbling with objects or products of sorts that don’t work properly because of their own doing. It amuses me as much as it reminds me to try things for myself and not rely much on the experiences of others, especially if they’re negative experiences. Thank you for reading!
